United Therapeutics Announces Positive Results from Trust Study of Intravenous Remodulin(R)

SILVER SPRING, Md. and RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Dec. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Therapeutics Corporation (Nasdaq: UTHR) announced today the preliminary results of its 45-patient placebo-controlled TRUST trial are positive, (p=0.00767). Specifically, intravenous Remodulin produced an 83-meter median improvement in six-minute walk distance compared to placebo after twelve weeks in patients with NYHA Class III/IV pulmonary arterial hypertension. Supporting and secondary endpoint analyses of the study results are ongoing. "We are very pleased that this first-ever placebo controlled study of intravenous therapy in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension overwhelmingly confirmed the efficacy of Remodulin," said Michael Wade, Ph.D., Vice President, Product Development.

"We look forward to completing the confirmatory and secondary analyses and preparing the results for publication and further regulatory submissions." The TRUST trial was commenced in March 2005 to further assess the clinical benefits of Remodulin and was initially designed to enroll up to 126 patients, with interim assessments permitted after 33, 66 and 99 patients completed the study. As previously reported, enrollment of new patients was suspended in August 2005 after 45 patients had been enrolled as recommended by the trial's independent Data Safety Monitoring Board.

TRUST is an acronym for "TRUST-1: Treprostinil I.V. for Untreated Symptomatic PAH Trial: A 12-Week Multicenter Randomized Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial of the Safety and Efficacy of Intravenous Remodulin in Patients in India with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH)".

Intravenous Remodulin is currently approved in the United States and Canada and is under review in Israel. Marketing applications have recently been submitted in the European Union and Switzerland.

Family man, sports lover 'never slowed down'

By MARIAN ACCARDI
Times Staff Writer marian.accardi@htimes.com

August 14, 2007 - John Citrano Sr. 'was always there,' 'always supportive'. Whether he was working with his daughter on her pitching or meeting his son at Madison County Lake for a fishing outing, John Lewis Citrano Sr. always made time for his kids.

"He was always there for all of us," said his daughter, Deborah Johnson, of Huntsville. "He was so supportive. Most of us were athletic when we were young and he was at all of our games."

He was even on hand for sports events for his nieces and nephews, then for his grandchildren.

Son John spent many weekends with his father either hunting or fishing, "depending on the time of year. Those are still two of my favorite things to do."

Citrano Sr. died July 15 at age 74. A graduate of Huntsville High School and Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama), he was with the Army for about three years and was a logistician with the Army Missile Command here. He retired after more than 30 years of service.

Citrano was diagnosed 11 years ago with primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH), a rare lung disorder. He was cautioned to take it easy.

"But he never slowed down," said his son. "He was always gardening or working on something."

Though he got winded easily, "he continued to work hard and stay busy."

Citrano and Violet were married Oct. 26, 1990.

"He was a very caring person," said "Vi," and had a smile "that lit up the place.

"He never met a stranger, and he kept up with his school friends," even those from his elementary school years, she said.

When the couple traveled, Citrano would often run into someone he knew, his wife said. Once when they traveled abroad, he exclaimed, "I don't hear anybody calling my name."

Citrano played for the Huntsville High and Florence State football teams and with the semi-professional football team, the Rockets, in the early '60s. He was very proud of his football endeavors, said Johnson.

She now lives in a house that her father built, and one room is her Alabama room, which holds University of Alabama memorabilia as well as one of her most prized possessions: On display with a helmet signed by former Alabama coach Gene Stallings is her dad's helmet from his years with the Rockets.
